Seven reasons why change initiatives could fail

  1. Leaders go it alone, and don’t build a coalition team to support them effect the change.
  2. Messages are vague, don't outline the rationale and do not link with the bigger picture
  3. Leaders inform, but don’t establish a dialogue with, those who will be most affected by the change
  4. Leaders don't have an engagement plan, people don't understand what's in it for them
  5. Expectations are unclear so people do not understand new priorities and actions
  6. The organisation has multiple overlapping priorities and managers do not have the bandwidth to implement change
  7. The change fails to show quick wins, thereby losing support
